Edom will be destroyed along with the judgment of the heathen in the day of Judah’s deliverance. (1:15-18, 21) Reasons are listed for Edom’s destruction as follows:

  1. She is too proud, thinking that no one can fight against her due to her high position. (1:3-4)

  2. She has done violence against her brother Jacob when he was captured by his enemies. (1:9)

  • looked over and rejoiced without offering help (1:11-12)

  • entered the land of Judah to rob their properties (1:13)

  • killed those who escaped (1:14)

  • handed the escapees to the enemy (1:14)
