When we are in comfortable days, we seldom care about the Lord’s coming, which is the day of relief for the obedient as well as the day of wrath for the disobedient. In case we may love the world like everyone else and become lax in abiding by the word of God, Paul aptly reminds us with the strong message of the Lord’s coming that “every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour (「要你們各人曉得怎樣用聖潔、尊貴守著自己的身體」)”. (4:4) He reminds us that “ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day”. (5:5) We should always stay awake rather than sleep, always knowing and following the will of God, “lest by some means the tempter have tempted you”. (3:5) So long as we live our lives worthy of the Lord (2:12, “walk worthy of (對得起) God”), we shall welcome the Lord’s coming as a glorious and joyful day. Otherwise, it might turn into a fearful day that is appointed for the children of darkness.
