The remnant

God has mercy upon His people

God punishes the rebellious only for a moment. “For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord thy Redeemer.” (Isa 54:7-8)

The Lord said, “I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction (因我從前稍微惱怒我民,他們就加害過份). Therefore…I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it…and a line (準繩) shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.” (Zech 1:15-16)

“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassion fail not. They are new every morning.” (Lam 3:22-23)

“For the Lord will not cast off for ever: But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.” (Lam 3:31-32)

“I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will bring them again to place them; for I have mercy upon them.” (Zech 10:6)

“Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage (饒恕你產業之餘民的罪過)? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.” (Micah 7:18)

“For he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness.” (Joel 2:13)

“For I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness.” (Jon 4:2)

Deliver the remnant

He shall deliver the remnant. “It shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.” (Joel 2:32)

The Lord will gather the remnant of Israel. “I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men…their king shall pass before them, and the Lord on the head of them.” (Micah 2:12-13)

And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the Lord, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men (不仗賴人力,也不等候世人之功).” (Micah 5:7)

The land of the Philistines shall become the dwellings of the remnant of Israel. “The sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks. And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the Lord their God shall visit (眷顧) them, and turn away their captivity (使他們被擄的人歸回).” (Zeph 2:6-7)

“For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent…The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.” (Zeph 3:9,13)

“But who may abide the day of his coming? And who shall stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap (漂布之人的鹼). And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.” (Mal 3:2-3) “But ye shall be named the Priests of the Lord; men shall call you the Ministers of our God.” (Isa 61:6)

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” (Mal 4:5-6)

The Lord is our Shepherd

The Lord will search and deliver His sheep from the countries and feed them in good pasture. “For thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country. I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord God. I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick.” (Ezek 34:11-16)

“I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. And I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them.” (Ezek 34:23-24)

“David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.” (Ezek 37:24)
