  1. Why would the author quote the Old Testament verses to introduce John the Baptist?

  2. What is the mission of John?

  3. What are the types of “preparatory gospel work” that today’s churches and Christian organizations participate? Can you give some examples that you know of? What is the difference between these types of gospel work and John’s doing?

  4. Have you received any of the service provided by the above types of gospel work? If someone believes in Jesus because of these types of gospel work, is there anything wrong with his belief?

  5. Please review Matt 3:7-8. Why would John refuse to baptize some people?

  6. What is the difference between the sin as defined in the Bible and the concept of sin in general minds? (Matt 5:21-22, 27)

  7. Why does everyone need to accept God’s salvation?

  8. Is it sufficient to receive the baptism of John?

  9. What kind of life did John live? Why did he choose such kind of life? What is its implication for you?

  10. What kind of attitude did John hold in his ministry? What is its implication for you? (John 3:27-30)

  11. Compare and discuss the kind of attitude held by John and Jesus in their ministries. (Phil 2:5-8) Is there anything common with them?
