  1. How many times in this passage is “authority” mentioned? What kinds of authority are concerned about?

  2. How did people perceive Jesus had such authority?

  3. How did the scribes teach people? What’s wrong with their teachings? (Mark 7:7-13; Matt 23:1-7)

  4. How different is Jesus’ teaching from the scribes’ teaching? (Matt 7:28-29; 5:3-10)

  5. What did the unclean spirit know about Jesus?

  6. How did Jesus respond to the unclean spirit? What kind of character did his response reveal about him?

  7. Are there similar responses in other miracles that Jesus performed? (Mark 1:34; 3:11-12; 5:43; 7:36; 8:26,29-30)
