Who is the master? Who is the servant? (Mk 10:32-45; Mt 20:20-28)

  1. How is Jesus’ prediction of his suffering this time (v33-34) different from the previous two times? (Mark 8:31; 9:31) Why did he keep repeating the same message? (Refer to the analysis of Mark 8:31-38)

  2. How is Jesus’ suffering related to ‘servant’? (Isa 53:10-11)

  3. Is there any contradiction in the request of the two disciples? How did they view the roles of master and servant? What’s your reflection about this?

  4. Is their request related to Jesus’ entering Jerusalem at all?

  5. What did Jesus refer to regarding the cup and the baptism in verse 38?

  6. The two disciples said firmly, “We can.” (v39) What do you think why they were so confident in giving that reply? Did they really comprehend what Jesus meant?

  7. Is there any class status in God’s kingdom? Is class status related to Jesus’ word in verse 38 at all?

  8. Please read the parable of the talents in Matt 25:14-30. What does God require from those who remain at high seats in His kingdom?

  9. The other disciples were “much displeased” (v41). What did it tell us about their minds?
